Shockwave Therapy

Assessment first

Focused acoustic pulses for tendon pain, sports injury and discomfort that has not settled with rest. Delivered in clinic in Sandbanks, often alongside localised cryotherapy.

What it is

Shockwave therapy sends short, high-energy acoustic pulses into the sore tendon or soft tissue. The aim is to stir local blood flow and restart repair in tissue that has become stubborn — without an injection or surgery.

What it is used for

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder tendon pain, including calcific tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendon pain around the knee
  • Chronic muscle tightness that keeps returning after sport

What a session feels like

A handheld applicator is placed on the area. You feel a firm tapping pulse. It is uncomfortable on a sore tendon, and we adjust the level so you can tolerate it. A session is usually 10–15 minutes on the area. You walk out afterwards. Mild soreness for a day or two is common.

How many sessions

Most plans are 3 to 6 sessions, about a week apart. The change is often clearer after the course, not after the first visit. We confirm the plan and the price at assessment.

Who it is not for

Not used over a fracture, infection, tumour, or in pregnancy, and not directly over a growth plate in a child. Blood-thinning medication and recent steroid injection in the same area are checked first.
